As this is a project created for high school students, to become a Benapeer member, you must:
Be currently attending high school
Be under the age of twenty
The Benapeer project currently introduces 3 roles available to all students.
None of the roles below requires an academic qualification for applicants. Each role, however, requires the student to demonstrate their academic skill (more information will be provided in a leadership form).
Each section below outlines each of the current roles Beanpeer offers.
Community Newsletter Writer
Community Newsletter Writer
The Community Newsletter Writer is a collaborative role that can be held by up to 12 students. As a Newsletter Writer, you will be responsible for drafting and publishing a Newsletter known as the Community Slice. This will be published on the Benapeer website and will be available for all members to view. This role is meant to prompt creativity as its restrictions are lenient. Restrictions for the community slice include:
No Obscenity
No unauthorized use of generative AI
No belittling of members inside or outside of the community
Must highlight news regarding the Benapeer community
Although there are no requirements outside of the standard membership requirements, suggested traits for this role include
2 high school English credits
Proficiency in the English language
Flexible schedule
Creativity
Resourcer
As a Resourcer, you will be asked to create or gather academic resources for your peers to refer to. These resources can cover any topic you think may benefit other peers in the community. Your resource will be reviewed by a board member before being published to the Benapeer website. There are two types of resources you can add to the resource center:
Pre-made resources
These are resources that have already been created and you believe would benefit the Benapeer community. Additionally, you may be asked to find a resource recommended by another peer. As a resourcer, you will be the deciding factor in whether a resource is implemented. For this type of resource, you will be responsible for:
Finding a resource
Providing a title
Providing A short description of the resource
Providing a visual that corresponds to the resource ( or using one provided by the resource)
Created resource
This resource will be created by you and will describe a topic you believe would benefit the Benapeer community. Additionally, you may be requested to create a resource that another peer has recommended. As a resourcer, you will be the deciding factor in whether a resource is implemented. For this type of resource, you will be responsible for:

A short description of the resource

All work created by a student will be submitted via a form for review by the BenaPeer board.
Research Scholar
Research Scholar
The Research Scholar role is recommended for students who excel in subjects within or outside Writing and wish to demonstrate their academic rigor through the submission of a personal project. These projects will be reviewed by the Benapeer board and will be displayed on the Benapeer website. This role aims to foster a diverse community that educates peers on new topics. Research projects should include:
A title
Researcher name
A short description or abstract
Sources used
Visual (as needed)
You MUST apply for membership if you plan to apply to become a leader. All Benapeer members are encouraged to apply for leadership positions! If you apply and become a member before leaving high school or reaching twenty years of age, you will be considered a senior peer and will no longer be able to apply for leadership positions.
require the student to demonstrate their academic skills. This could include one of the following :
A submission of a past project/assignment that embodies their academic rigor
A response to a question provided in their application
This is not meant to limit your access to each role but rather provide information on how the student can be supported in their chosen leadership role. To become a leader, you must complete a leadership application, which will be provided to you upon submission of a membership form. You will only be provided a leadership form upon request. If you select “ Yes, I am interested in a leadership position” on your membership form, you will be sent an email providing you with a leadership interest form. If you select “No, I am not interested in a leadership position at this time” on your membership form and wish to apply to become a leader after your submission, please contact the Benapeer board at Support@benapeer.com for a leadership form
Each role is meant to offer a sense of inclusivity and creativity. The roles below will be described in their own sections and are not limited to any student. Although there is no specific amount of work you must submit, your leadership role will be removed if we believe you are not demonstrating academic drive and willingness.
